Yesukhei Baatar of the Khiad clan battles the Tatar tribe and defeats the warriors Temuujin Uge and Khori Bukha. The great shaman proclaims of the child forming in the womb of his wife, Mother Öelün: "The Eternal Blue Sky is sending one of great destiny." On the banks of the Onon River, Yesukhei Baatar's son Temuujin is born clutching a clot of blood in his right hand.

While staying with Dai Setsen, a noble of the Khongirad tribe, Yesukhei Baatar betroths his son Temuujin to Dai Setsen's daughter Börte. After Yesukhei Baatar is poisoned by the Tatars and dies, their clan abandons the family, and Mother Öelün raises her children to be united, resilient, and brave. Temuujin kills his half-brother Begter - born of the same father but a different mother, shooting him with a bow in a quarrel over a fish.

When Temuujin comes of age, he takes Börte as his wife. Though the Merkits abduct Börte, Temuujin wages war with the help of Jamukha and Wang Khan Tooril and wins his wife back. Börte becomes Chinggis Khaan's most trusted companion and gives birth to four sons: Jochi, Chagatai, Ögedei, and Tolui. Seeing his four sons flaunting their strength and fighting with one another, Chinggis Khaan tells them, "Stay united and lean on one another, my sons who will hold the reins of the Mongol Empire's state," and then rides off to war.

Jamukha proclaims himself Gür Khan, and because he has broken the oath of sworn brotherhood with Temuujin - with whom he had sworn brotherhood three times, he is put to death. Deeply regretting having killed Jamukha, Temuujin buries him with honor according to ancient custom.

As Temuujin's spirit is troubled, the voice of Mother Öelün carries on the wind, giving him the strength and hope to unite the empire. In 1206, Temuujin unites the Mongol tribes and receives the title Chinggis Khaan. His fame and glory spread throughout the world.
